NE Michigan Educator Externship Program

Educators Encouraged to Register for Summer Externships
Participants eligible to receive stipend, continuing education hours
INDIAN RIVER, MI — Registration for the Northeast Michigan Educator Externship Program opens Thursday, May 1.
Offered through a partnership of the MiSTEM Network and the Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District (COPESD), the externships allow educators in the region to gain firsthand experience and bridge the gap between a variety of real-world career fields and their classrooms.
“Immersing teachers and other educators in these externships will allow them to broaden their knowledge and develop real-world applications to enhance their instruction and empower students to explore STEM careers in their own communities,” said COPESD Superintendent Jamie Huber. “These programs also enable our schools to build partnerships with local businesses and industry leaders that will serve students in the future.”
Externships will have educators participating in activities alongside students taking part in career and technical education-focused summer camps and academies organized by COPESD. Externship participants will experience healthcare, engineering, robotics, manufacturing, business and public safety, among other fields.
Participating educators will be eligible to receive a stipend of $150 day stipend and state continuing education clock hours (SCECH) if they complete a post-program survey and submit an Educator Externship Final Reflection and Integration Plan.
