Update on CTE Summer Camps & Academies

This summer marks the fifth year that students in the Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District (COPESD) have had the opportunity to take part in summer camps and academies providing career and technical education (CTE) experiences.
The growth of these educational programs is an accomplishment that everyone can be proud of. From offering three programs in 2021, the total number of sessions offered this summer was 49. Student participation has also risen by more than 280% over that time.
Students in grades 7-12 are engaged in a variety of activities. From First Aid & CPR, to Welding, Robotics, Public Safety, Building Trades, and more—they are receiving exceptional training from local employers, gaining hands-on experience, and exploring potential career fields.
Taking a closer look at our Heavy Equipment Exploration Camp, the recent feedback from parents shows just how much of an impact these programs can have.
“My child said every part of every day was his favorite part,” said one parent.
“He said he wished school was like this,” another parent said of their child.
If you would like to see some of the great things that students are doing thanks to these summer camps and academies, and learn more about CTE and the ways it can support our students and the regional economy, there is an upcoming opportunity.
On Wednesday, July 16, we are hosting a STEM Career Exploration Media Day at the Industrial Arts Institute in Onaway (20902 Washington St.). The event will begin at 1:00 p.m. and feature presentations, testimonials, and tours of the five programs currently underway there.
As always, thank you for your interest in these programs and for your continued support for the students we serve.
